Giethoorn village for many people in the Netherlands is unheard of, but after seeing the photos you will want to visit it.
It is considered the Venice of the Netherlands because of the similarity of the “streets”.
This village typically has water canals instead of asphalt and all citizens move in small boats. As you can see in the picture, the greenery surrounds the whole village which has about 2600 inhabitants.
The village is known for its peaceful atmosphere, with a simple beauty, greenery on all sides, lakes and wooden bridges. It is quiet enough that the loudest noise that can be heard are the rustling of a rose or the chirping of other birds.
Apart from being frequented during the warm seasons, the village is a beautiful destination even during the winter season.
If you explore the village on foot, you will discover many museums and churches. There is the museum “Het Olde Maat Uus” where you can see what a farmhouse looked like centuries ago. Also, there are many art exhibitions, activities for children and the museum “De Oude Aarde” for display of precious stones of all kinds. There are historic buildings, churches and castles, where you can learn about the history of this place. As well as the De Weerribben-Wieden national park
