The Guardian: Albania the main tourist destination for 2022

According to the prestigious British The Guardian, Albania will become a major tourist destination for the British in 2022. The Guardian quotes:

“Albania has been on the radar of brave travelers for some time, but this year tour operators predict that the country of the southeastern Balkans will become a major holiday destination for travelers from the United Kingdom, following an increase in bookings this January.

Interest in the country has gradually increased over the last decade, as it has opened slowly, after a 44-year dictatorship that ended in 1990. Tour operators have seen a significant increase in bookings for 2022, while Albania is becoming more and more attractive to people looking for beautiful beaches, impressive landscapes, as well as interesting culture and history, at a lower price than neighboring destinations.

“Albania is one of those small and diverse destinations that can offer a little of everything to anyone, similar to Montenegro or Slovenia,” said Tine Murn, co-founder of New Deal Europe, a marketing agency for Balkan tourism.

He added that Albania was an “undiscovered Mediterranean gem” and “still has an exotic feel, even though it is geographically very close”.

The National Tourism Agency of Albania sees the United Kingdom as “an emerging market” and has actively promoted tourism in recent years. The place is also becoming much easier to visit as the standard of its accommodation has improved and infrastructure costs have increased.
The great Albanian diaspora of the United Kingdom and famous champions, such as Southampton footballer Armando Broja and pop stars Dua Lipa and Rita Ora, have further helped raise the profile and promote the country.
Historical points of Albania
Dig into Albania’s rich past by visiting cities and fortresses like Kruja, the country’s first capital, or Gjirokastra and Berat. There are also ancient ruins in Apollonia and Butrint. For an overview of the country’s recent history, under communist dictator Enver Hoxha, explore one of the many bunkers built by the paranoid regime to protect its citizens, located throughout the landscape.
Landscapes that leave you breathless
The Albanian Alps are a spectacular mountain range, with excellent hiking trails that will take you around some of Europe’s cleanest rivers, remote villages and stunning scenery. Albania also has several large lakes to explore, such as Ohrid, Prespa and Lake Shkodra.
A vibrant capital
There is a lot to see and do in Tirana, which is safe, walkable and noisy, yet unoccupied by tourists. There is a thriving scene of bars and restaurants, especially in the Block area, as well as many museums to visit. Tirana is the European Youth Capital for 2022 and will host a program of art and culinary activities, as well as concerts by Dua Lipa and Rita Ora.
Beautiful coastline
Like other Adriatic countries, Albania has a long and beautiful coastline, with blue sea and beautiful beaches, and with fewer visitors, so it is more likely to have ample space for your towel. .Beautiful coastline

Attractive culture
Albania has a special culture, as it has been isolated from other European countries for so long, partly because of its mountain range, which kept away external influence. “Albanian cuisine is a surprising mix of Mediterranean and Eastern flavors, based on high quality products that originate from local markets.”
