What is Amalfi Most Famous For? Amalfi, the namesake town of Italy’s famous coast, is a gem with old-world charms. Once the capital of a powerful maritime republic, this Italian town is a combination of centuries of intricate history, dramatic natural scenery, and delicious fresh seafood.

Amalfi is the largest town in the area and it is one of the most popular destinations for honeymoon and visitors who are looking for both medieval architecture and history.

When at Amalfi make sure you see the lovely beaches, and of course the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea which was built in the 10th century, and the Cloister of Paradise, an Arab-style building which was built in the 13th century and is currently an open-air museum with many mosaics and paintings.

For all the foodies out there, Amalfi is the birthplace of Cannoli. So make you indulge in some sweet treats while at Amalfi.

Where to stay in Amalfi Coast, Italy

This town needs to be seen at least once in a lifetime. It is reachable either by ferry by both Naples and Sorrento or by bus from Sorrento (right outside the Sorrento train station you will see the Amalfi Coast bus- SITA). This is the very beginning of the Amalfi Coast.

The drive is absolutely gorgeous as at every twist and turn you get to see a different sliver of cliffs, a different shade of blue and turquoise. As you get off the bus and see the view of this coastal town completely built on the cliff, with its pastel roofs and flowers, and the green mountains hitting the blue water, you will feel as if you are inside a postcard.

Too beautiful to be true! Positano offers many high-end hotels right in the town. It is the most expensive and chic town on the Coast, so not the place to sleep for a more budget-friendly trip.
