Today marks the 22nd of May International Biodiversity Day which has been declared by the United Nations in order to raise awareness and deeper understanding of biodiversity issues.
This day was first marked by the Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 29, 1993, which also marks the date of entry into force of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
